Workington Reds have missed out on two targets ahead of their NPL West trip to Runcorn Linnets.
Manager Danny Grainger said he was very disappointed to miss out on one of them in particular.
“I’ve been a long-time admirer but he has decided to go to the League above from a club in our league. The other target has decided against joining us,” he said.
Grainger also asked Jordan Palmer to come back and be part of the squad again after he went back to Carlisle City to get more game time on dual registration.
But Palmer, who scored two goals for the Reds, has opted to stay with City in the Northern League.
“I’m disappointed but obviously I respect his decision and wish him all the best,” said Grainger. “At the end of the day I’m happy with the squad I’ve got. I have great belief in them but if there’s anyone I think can add to the qualities we have I will try and bring him in.”
Reds picked up only a point from their last two home games, and Grainger will be looking to get back to winning ways tomorrow at Runcorn.
“Every team goes through a bit of a blip. Runcorn have had theirs and come through it so it will be tough. But we have had two really good training sessions this week and everyone is looking forward to the game.
“We have a couple of players with niggles but they will be assessed tomorrow,” he said.
Dav Symington (stomach strain) and Brad Hubbold (calf) were the high profile absentees in the 1-0 defeat to Bootle on Saturday.
