
An own goal earned Barrow a 1-1 home draw with Salford City as the Bluebirds failed in their bid for a third successive win.
Successive victories over promotion chasing Bradford City and Stockport County had fuelled belief Barrow could add another League One hopeful to their collection.
But it was Barrow who needed the own goal to earn the point after they had trailed to an early Salford penalty.
Theo Vassell was the unfortunate player for the visitors as he diverted Sam McClelland’s pass into his own net with his keeper stranded 20 minutes fro0m time.
Salford had gone in front after 12 minutes from the first penalty they have been awarded this season. George Ray fouled the elusive Louie Barry and Ryan Watson drilled home his seventh goal of the campaign.
Barrow struggled to make any real impression in the first half but looked much more dangerous after the interval and Vassel’s misfortune set-up a frantic finish.
The climax was exciting and the verdict could have gone either way as both keepers were called upon to keep the score level with excellent stops.
Barrow’s Paul Farman was the busier and he had to make three outstanding saves late on to maintain parity yet it was Barrow who had the last chance toi snatch all three points.
Salford’s Alex Cairns was their last gasp hero when he produced an outstanding save to thwart Barrow substitute Billy Waters.
