Workington Reds officials are hoping most of last week’s increased crowd will back the team again this week.
The NPL West match with Macclesfield attracted 1,672 fans of which only 302 were visiting supporters.
On Saturday Reds entertain Hanley Town looking to bounce back from that 1-0 defeat to the League leaders and continue their fight for promotion.
Director Les Byers, who attended an NPL meeting in Mancherster last night said: “Macclesfield were very complimentary on how we had handled the segregation and organisation which was good to hear.
“Their representative spoke at the meeting so we were pleased to hear their appreciation.
“It would be great if those extra fans last week came back for the Hanley game because the atmosphere was superb.”
Although that defeat left Reds 12 points behind Macclesfield, manager Danny Grainger has not given up on automatic promotion.
“We will continue to fight for every point and in the end we will finish where we deserve to finish – be that first, second, third, fourth or fifth.
“I have every belief in this group of players. Our aim was promotion and that is still the target over the last nine games of the season,” he said.
Third-placed Reds trail Leek Town by three points and the Cumbrians have a seven-goal scoring differential to make up.
If they can’t catch Macclesfield, Reds will want to finish second as that could secure two home games in the play-offs.
That didn’t work out last season when Reds finished second to Warrington Rylands but lost the play-off semi-final to Marine.
On Saturday Macclesfield go to 1874 Northwich while Leek Town are at home to City of Liverpool.
