
Kendal Town will play Penrith reserves in the final of the Westmorland Cup on Saturday, April 29.
Both had to work hard to get through their semi-final ties with Kendal scoring two late goals in a 2-1 win over Milnthorpe Corinthians.
Penrith reserves were taken even closer by Kirkoswald as it finished 1-1 and went straight to penalties where the reserve side triumphed 5-4.
It had been a close-run thing at Milnthorpe where Kendal didn’t get in front until the 84th minute when Tom Kilifin raced from half-way before producing a calm finish.
Ryan Winder made it 2-0 in the 90th minute before a late penalty in the sixth minute of time added on from Jenson Butterworth gave Milnthorpe some consolation.
Kendal chairman Michael O’Neill said: “Milnthorpe gave it a good go and they were close to taking the lead on a couple of occasions.
“I felt a bit sorry for them because they have a lovely set-up, welcoming fans and officials, and it was a pleasure to play there.
“It does mean we will stage the final on April 29 because our stadium had already been selected as the venue before the competition started.”
Kendal have also got a home draw in the semi-final of the Macron Cup when they host Congleton, and this will be staged on April 8.
The other semi-final will be played on the same day – Bacup Borough v FC St Helens.
Meanwhile, just to sound each other out, Kendal travel to Congleton tomorrow in the North West Counties Premier Division.
Penrith could have teams in two County Cup finals for with the Reserves through to the Westmorland showdown the first team go to Whitehaven on March 15 to bid for a place in the Cumberland County Cup final.
