Kendal Rotary’s Trevor Hughes gives Cumbria Crack readers an update on the group’s fundraising activities.
Its annual swimathon took place on Saturday March 4 at Kendal Leisure Centre when around 150 swimmers took part.
The event enables teams to raise funds by relay swimming for an hour. Since its inception in 1985, groups have raised over £450,000. Teams of four people swim as many lengths as possible in the time and it gives them an opportunity to raise funds for their own organisation as well as also raising money for charity. This year over £400 was raised for Rotary’s nominated charities.
Turkish earthquake
Over three days, Kendal Rotary Club and Kendal Inner Wheel have been collecting money in aid of the Turkish Earthquake appeal and they would like to thank the people of Kendal for their generosity. Over £3,500 was raised which has enabled the club to purchase eight Shelter Boxes, which are much needed.
