Savills has appointed Kelvin Archer as forestry manager.

Joining the growing rural team in the firm’s Carlisle office, Kelvin spent the previous two-and-a-half years as forest manager and wildfire officer at The Woodland Trust.

With almost 10 years’ experience in forestry and tree management, Kelvin’s role at Savills will see him providing woodland management to a mixture of private estates and institutional landowners across Cumbria and Lancashire, while supporting the firm’s existing work and new woodland planting projects in Northumberland, Yorkshire and other parts of the UK.

Across roles with The Woodland Trust, Scottish Woodlands Limited and The Scottish Wildlife Trust, Kelvin has expertise in the delivery of woodland creation, harvesting and infrastructure operations including the management of ancient woodlands, commercial plantations, sites of significant scientific interest (SSSI’s) and leading on peat restoration and natural forest management projects.

Kelvin’s arrival follows the appointment of Luke Hemmings, in Newcastle, to the northern forestry team as senior woodland consultant.

Mark Gordon, director and head of the forestry for the north region at Savills, said: “We are delighted to welcome Kelvin to the team and at such an exciting time of growth across our rural practice. We continue to improve upon our strong presence across the north of England and Kelvin’s deep understanding of the woodland sector and knowledge of the regions in which he will be operating further strengthens the service we are able to provide to our clients.”

Kelvin said: “I am really excited to be joining the Savills forestry team at a time of great opportunity in the sector. Forestry and woodland management are a key pillar of the green economy, producing vital renewable building materials while sequestering carbon, sheltering wildlife and delivering essential landscape, health and recreational benefits to wider society.”
