Work is set to begin on a new community hub for Aspatria.
The extension of the town’s existing library building on Market Square will start on Monday and it is hoped they will be completed by autumn.
The hub will bring together the town’s library and children’s centre under one roof.
Plans were approved last year and include the renovation and extension of the Aspatria Library building on Market Square.
A temporary library service is currently being provided from the Children’s Centre on King Street. It includes select and collect, printing and online access.
The new hub will create a modern library space, providing access to a wide range of library services and a new children’s library. The children’s centre for young people and their carers, will include a light and airy playroom, a messy play area, and enclosed outdoor play area.
The hub will also create a new facility for partner organisations through a multi-purpose room providing a refurbished shared space for the delivery of adult learning courses, health and wellbeing sessions and more.
This project has been supported by Cumbria County Council Allerdale Local Committee.
Town firm Roland Hill will carry out the work.
