L&L Property Contractors Snooker League has drawn to a close.
Already crowned Division One champions Workington Golf Club A had a free week while Division Two champions Flimby Social relaxed a little as they went down 3-2 to Workington’s United Club.
The season doesn’t finish, however, as the next couple of months sees Top 4 and KO competition finals take centre stage.
Flimby had started in the best possible fashion in their final League game as Kevin Kirkham contributed with a break of 44 in their first frame at Workington’s United Club.
This, however, didn’t deter United Club captain Andrew Mitchelhill and with a cool colours clearance he put his side 1-0 up.
Frame two delivered a measured performance as Richard Kirkham made it 1-1 but the third frame proved to be one of the highlights of the season.
Facing a difficult table, with the high value colours safe, United’s Peter O’Hagan not only constructed a significant a break to win the frame but did it with a aplomb.
He ran up a season’s best contribution of 68, to go alongside an impressive 100 per cent win percentage for the campaign.
A black ball victory in the next for United’s Dave Chapman ensured his side won the match but back came Sal Cakmak to take the final frame of the fixture to leave Flimby just one adrift at 3-2.
Workington Conservative Club won 4-1 at home against Division Two’s Maryport Social to pip The United Club to a second-placed Division One spot in a gallant defence of their top tier title.
Julian Plaza and Richard McCarthy won two low scoring frames to put the Cons Club 2-0 up and with an equally tactical encounter in the next, two-times county champion Alan Moore ensured the match score advanced to 3-0.
A close Dave Holland victory made the possibility of a whitewash look likely but Andrew Scott capitalised on the chances he was presented with, and the Social cueist took the last to save Maryport’s blushes.
Station Road Club finished second in Division Two on the back of a 5-0 win over wooden spoonists Workington Golf Club B.
Tom Thompson opened up with a victory and with another winning appearance from Station Road super sub Andrew Henderson the Division Two runners-up were 2-0 up.
The evening’s most convincing performance went to John Teasdale as he made it 3-0 and with team-mate Mike Walker winning the fourth Station Road were 4-0 to the good.
Darren Lawson was in no mood for slackening off in the final frame of the match and with a break of 31 the Station Road cueist delivered the whitewash.
Finally, Division One’s Workington Veterans Club travelled to Whitehaven to face Division Two’s The Rack Shack and with a 3-2 victory the Workington outfit avenged their earlier season home defeat.
Mark Tunstall opened up with a re-spotted black ball win and as Vets captain Kevin Basnett won the next from nearly 30 behind the visitors led 2-0.
Frame three proved to be a tactical affair but it was Nev Stitt who made the most of his opportunities to pull one back for the Rack Shack at 2-1.
Another close frame saw the Vets make it 3-1 but it was The Rack Shack’s Chris McKelvey who took the last for a 3-2 scoreline in an extremely competitive match.
