Kai Nugent, an impressive loanee over the second half of the season with Workington Reds, has been offered a professional contract with parent club Carlisle United.
The 18-year-old midfielder, who will be involved in Reds’ play-off final against Runcorn Linnets on Saturday, is the only member of the second-year youth squad at Brunton Patrk to be offered a senior contract.
Workington manager Danny Grainger said: “He has been a breath of fresh air with us. I love his enthusiasm and energy. He has fitted in really well and looked completely at home.
“Everyone was delighted for him when he scored his first goal for ius the other week against Witton.”
Mark Birch, whose son Charlie plays alongside Nugent at Workington, is Carlisle’s Under-18s boss and he said: “It’s great for Kai and he deserves it for the work he’s done over the two years.
“He’s bought into everything we’ve done, he’s done it right and done everything that’s been asked of him.
“He embraced going out on loan, he understood the benefit of that, and he’s been down at Workington and done it properly.”
