A Kendal pensioner accused of committed historical sex assaults on a child almost 50 years ago is to stand trial in front of a jury early next year.
Peter Thomas Gibson, 79, appeared at Carlisle Crown Court earlier today.
Gibson faces three charges. All charges allege that he indecently assaulted a child during the 1970s.
During a short hearing in front of Judge Richard Archer, Gibson pleaded not guilty to all three charges when they were read to him by a court clerk.
His case has now been listed for a trial in front of a jury. This is due to start at the crown court on February 26 2024 and — it is estimated — will last two to three days.
Gibson, of Sepulchre Lane, Kendal, was told he should assist his legal team in due course with the service of a formal statement outlining the nature of his defence to the allegations.
In the meantime Gibson was granted bail by the judge.
