Asda will take over the majority of EG Group’s petrol stations in the UK and Ireland, it has been announced.
EG Group, which has petrol stations in Lillyhall, near Workington and Cockermouth, said it was selling 350 sites and 1,000 convenience stores to its sister company and would keep 30. It is not clear if its Cumbrian sites are included in the deal.
Brothers Mohsin and Zuber Issa founded EG Group in 2001 and were co-chief executives. Mohsin Issa will continue to lead Asda, while the supermarket said it will appoint a new group chief executive.
The proceeds of the sale will be used to repay debt.
