Victim followed criminal who stole his phone so police could arrest him

A man has been jailed to 20 months in prison for attempted robbery.

Louie Holmes, 28, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to the offence at Carlisle Crown Court.

The court heard that Holmes was knocking on doors asking on Arnside Road, Carlisle on December 23 when he approached a man asking him if he was a parking attendant.

He said he was he was not, but Holmes continued to approach the man acting in an aggressive manner, becoming further agitated when the man took a phone call.

The man ended his call and Holmes demanded to know who he was speaking to before attempting to grab his phone and making several swings at the victim.

Holmes then chased the man as he ran from him before assaulting him at the front door of a property continuing to attempt to take his phone.

Disrupted by a neighbour, Holmes made of from the scene but was followed by the victim who was on the phone to the police allowing officers to locate and arrest Holmes.

Detective Constable Gaby Nicholson said: “Holmes subject the victim to an unprovoked attack in attempts to take his mobile phone.

“Thanks to the victim updating officers within our control room we were able to locate Holmes and arrest him.”
