A heavily convicted Carlisle shoplifter has been jailed for an illegal trolley dash he committed at one shop just five days after stealing steak and salmon from another.
Kieron Michael Lowe, 42, was sentenced for two offences of theft which he admitted at the city’s magistrates’ court this morning.
Lowe had entered the Central Avenue Co-op in Harraby, Carlisle, on May 24. He selected salmon, steak and yoghurt worth around £50 before leaving the store without paying for those items.
On May 29,Lowe went into Iceland at St Nicholas Gate, off London Road. “He loaded his trolley with multiple items totalling around £400,” said prosecutor George Shelley. These were food and cleaning products which he stole.
The court heard he had 138 past offences including 89 for theft and dishonesty matters. He had returned to crime ant the Co-op only eight days after being released from prison, having been handed a 14-week jail term earlier in the year for breaching a suspended sentence he was given for previous shoplifting.
The district judge, John Temperley, gave Lowe, of Baird Road, Carlisle, a 14-week prison sentence for the two new crimes, prompting the defendant to react by saying “sweet” as he was led from the dock.
