Wath Brow Hornets are on the road again tomorrow to St Helens where they will tackle Thatto Heath Crusaders in the National Conference Premier Division.
They will face a Crusaders side who were well beaten at home last week, 48-4 by the most improved team in the competition Rochdale Mayfield.
It was the only game played in the top flight and confirmed Mayfield as genuine title contenders who are joint top with Hunslet Amateurs but have a game in hand.
Hornets are a point behind the pair, but having played the same number of games as Hunslet while West Hull have slipped three points behind the Cumbrians after a series of disappointing results. Thatto Heath are fifth, five points behind the Brow.
Kells are in a clutch of three clubs in mid-table, all on eight points, so as tomorrow’s visitors Siddal are also one of that trio it’s a key contest for them both.
The Whitehaven club have adapted well to their return to the top flight, although successive trips to Humberside – one of them with a depleted side – did not help their cause. They will be ready to bounce back against a side who have won the same number of games as they have – four.
Egremont have made good progress in recent weeks and lie in fourth place in Division One ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Clock Face Miners. The St. Helens side are just three places and two points behind the Cumbrians.
Last season Egremont dropped out of the Premier Division alongside Thornhill Trojans and Pilkington Recs and are certainly doing a lot better than those two who are currently bottom and third bottom in danger of a second successive relegation.
Barrow Island have slipped into the bottom half of Division Two and could do with a quick turnaround in results before they are dragged into any relegation issues.
Tomorrow they entertain Dewsbury Celtic who are two places and four points better off in the table. They are also coming into the game on the back of a very good 24-16 away win at local rivals, joint leaders Dewsbury Moor Maroons last week.
None of the four Cumbrian teams in Division Three have a fixture tomorrow when the only game is second-placed Leigh East at home to sixth in the table Eastmoor Dragons.
