Wath Brow Hornets continue their relentless pursuit of the National Conference Premier Division’s top two teams tomorrow.
The West Cumbrians entertain Siddal, whose home defeat to Lock Lane last week allowed the Castleford side to escape the bottom three.
Siddal are only out of the drop zone by virtue of a much better points differential than Hull Dockers,
So the Brow, who beat bottom side Leigh Miners Rangers 34-14 last week, will again have to go into action with the mindset of no complacency.
Ian Rooney’s men remain third still just a point behind Hunslet Amateurs and Rochdale Mayfield – but they now have a five point cushion over fourth-placed West Hull.
Tomorrow Hunslet Amateurs have a home game against York Acorn who moved fifth with last week’s 36-4 win over Kells.
Rochdale Mayfield travel to Lock Lane seeking to continue their climb away from the bottom three.
Kells are on the road again, this time to Wigan St Patrick’s, who despite lying second bottom have had three decent wins, including one at West Hull.
As the clubs move into the second-half of the season Peter Smith’s men are solid mid-table among three clubs on 10 points from their 12 games.
After last season’s promotion it was all about consolidation and ensuring they stayed in the top-flight. So far so good, but work still to be done to ensure that.
Unfortunately for Egremont Rangers they have no game tomorrow in Division One having hit a rich vein of form which has carried them into second place in the table.
West Bowling have a big lead (six points) at the top and Egremont lead a clutch of five clubs who are separated by just a point in the battle for promotion.
The table had to be revised after Featherstone Lions pulled out of the League.
In Division Two Barrow Island have ground to make up to get themselves into contention for a play-off place.
They crashed 44-8 at Dewsbury Moor Maroons last week and are back at home tomorrow to play Myton Warriors who escaped the relegation zone with their very good 46-12 home win over play-off chasing Woolston Rovers.
One of the most attractive games in the county tomorrow, as far as the National Conference is concerned, should be the Third Division clash at Ellenborough.
The Rangers entertain Oldham St. Anne’s which will be third at home to second, with currently four points between them.
The Oldham side have only lost once in ten starts and beat Elbra 44-18 when they hosted the Cumbrian newcomers earlier in the season.
Paul Gorge’s men produced a great second-half display last week to win the derby clash with Millom and will have to hit top note again tomorrow to see-off St. Anne’s.
Millom will want to forget that second-half display at Ellenborough when they entertain Bentley. The game looked as if it could go either way at half-time with Elbra 24-22 to the good but Millom were outplayed in the second-half and crashed to a 46-26 defeat.
They stay fourth, though, and have a four point cushion on Beverley the team below them.
League leaders Leigh East are in West Cumbria when they visit Hensingham, who return to action after a blank weekend.
Their game at Seaton Rangers was postponed, partly on police advice because of the village carnival, although they were offered the chance to play on the Friday night.
Bottom side Seaton resume with a trip to Eastmoor Dragons whose visit to the village earlier in the season proved a real feisty affair.
