Cumbria will play Cheshire in the quarter finals of the NCCA Trophy after Sunday’s nine-wicket win over Lincolnshire earned them a home tie.
At the moment the County still have to confirm where the match will be played but it will be staged next Sunday, July 2.
Northumberland had already booked their place in the last eight and will go through as runners-up in Cumbria’s group. Herefordshire won at Oxfordshire yesterday and finish third with the losers bottom of the group without a point.
Berkshire, who have beaten Cumbria in the last three finals, only finished runners-up behind Hertfordshire in their group – and only ahead of Cornwall on run rate.
Cheshire, Cumbria’s opponents on Sunday, also only got through on run-rate, finishing runners-up to Suffolk after pipping Shropshire.
Indeed they looked in trouble when their final game against Shropshire was abandoned yesterday.
Chasing a massive 336-7 they had scored 18-1 after 3.3 overs when the rain came and they never got back on again.
Dorset and Wiltshire complete the line-up of teams through to the quarter final stage of the competition.
Cheshire were the very first winners of the NCCA Trophy in 1983 and have gone on to win it three times since, the last time in 2018. Cumbria (as Cumberland) have won it twice.
