The Derwent Valley Federation won’t be racing this weekend with the planned start to the young bird programme delayed again.
It had been due to start last Saturday but clubs voted to put it back a week, and now the weather has intervened.
The forecast for Saturday and Sunday is very poor – even for a race from such a short distance as Flookburgh – so officials are now looking for a mid-week liberation.
The race-point of Flookburgh presents other problems, too, as liberation times are limited during the day over the week-end because of plane activities mainly involving parachute jumps.
The West Cumberland Federation did get in a race from Flookburgh last Sunday, but a number of fanciers did not compete.
They had already taken the decision to dispense with a race this Saturday or Sunday and instead have selected Wednesday, July 19, as their date for the liberation at Flookburgh.
The Derwent Valley Federation have only said there will be no race Saturday or Sunday and that the weather will be monitored daily with a view to having a mid-week race.
