Trailing action was back at Redmain yesterday with a four-card meeting which has been run for a number of years in memory of Farrell Gorley.
Farrell, and his sons were heavily involved in rugby league, both professionally and in the amateur game with Broughton Red Rose. Farrell and eldest son, the late Les, were also very keen on hound trailing.
The Farrell Gorley Memorial Trophy was for the winner of the pups while the Open Non-winners were competing for the Shindig Trophy, donated by Billy Birket on behalf of his late friend Les Gorley.
It was in memory of his good friends the Gorleys who all lived in the same village, Great Broughton, near Cockermouth.
The senior hounds got things underway with a field of 17 runners. Silver Streak went off as favourite at 2/1 on, with the winner from Tuesday night Duchess Ava second favourite.

There was no Winterfell, the Championship leader as he will be looking to notch up another win at Helton today where the more open running as opposed to the fields and dykes, will be more to his liking.
As the senior hounds came onto the finish up the long straight there was a good group of hounds but two white dogs had a few lengths and they continued to battle head to head as they approached the finishing line.
In the end it was Strawberry Mick for Graham and Les Reid who just came away for his first Championship win of the season, crossing the line a length and a half in front of Silver Streak for Darren McMaster, Anthony Skelton, Sadie Wilson and Phil Graham.
There was a good performance from Howgill Lil which resulted in her finishing third for Ian Bell from Kendal, followed by Miterdale Duchess who was in fourth place.

Duchess Ava was well back out of the ticketing hounds and must have got wrong in the bottoms before turning for home which took her out of the race after her strong performance on Tuesday night.
Next to the slip were the pups with a small field of six with many of the top hounds looking to run at Helton.
Mel and Embrace, along with Rodney Raider, were all absentees as they favour the open running at Helton.
With only six runners Silver Dream was the odds-on favourite but as they came on to the finish it was a good race between her and two of the Foxparke kennel – Foxparke Honk Honk and Foxparke Fair Lady.
Silver Dream had to dig deep to continue to keep just that little bit in front of Foxparke Honk Honk who was matching her every stride. However, on the line Silver Dream just got up with the last stride to get her head over the line in first place.
This success takes her to 10 wins and is now only two points behind her brother and kennel mate Rodney Raider. Darren and Julie McMaster took home the Farrell Gorley trophy to add to their many trophies already collected this season.
There were seventeen runners in the Open Non-Winner race with a wide open field with three or four hounds at 3/1 on the bookies board. As they came into view there was a good group of hounds all in with a chance.
When they cleared the last fence and came up the long finish there were four hounds who had got an advantage over the rest of the pack. Nearing the line one hound drove through from third place to take the win.
It was Twilight Mist for Gary Woodend who finished exceptionally well to beat the others to the line and take her first win. Gary was highly delighted with how his little hound had performed.

Finishing a close second and third were Foxparke Dealer and Foxparke Side Kick, with Red Baaeed for Anne and Mal Reay finishing in fourth. At one point it looked as though he was going to come and win the race.
Finishing fourth, however, maintained his lead in the Open Non-Winners points competition, a couple of points ahead of Foxparke Dealer in second place.
The last race of the afternoon got underway just as the rain started to come in and was for the Open Restricted with 20 runners.
Maverick and Dream Catcher went off as favourites but when they showed on the finish it was Donna and Shaun Hetherington’s Splendid Lilly who was just in front from Maverick.
They battled it out up the finish but it was Splendid Lilly who held on to take the win from Maverick owned by Joseph Abraham and Sadie Wilson. Dream Catcher finished in third for Brian and Joy Lister followed home by Thorn Rose for Martin and Molly Burrows.
After Overwater Eddie’s good performance on Thursday night at Latrigg he finished well in fifth place for James Irving.
The next trail takes place at Helton with the senior hounds slipping at 4pm.
