Workington Town have re-signed their former forward Liam McAvoy after his release by Whitehaven.
The 29-year-old made his professional bow for Town in 2014 after a brief stay with Hunslet where he had made his senior debut, coming on as a substitute the year before.
In three years at Derwent Park he clocked-up over 60 appearances before leaving to join Newcastle Thunder for the 2017 season.
He made 74 appearances there but at the end of the 2019 season decided to spend a year in Australia where he trained with the Newcastle Knights Cup side.
When he returned to the UK he re-signed for Newcastle and then joined Whitehaven for the 2022 season.
Jonty Gorley, after watching McAvoy sign on the dotted line, said: “Every team needs a Liam McAvoy because as a front rower or a middle he is what it says on the tin.
“He does a lot of work, has a good engine on him with a bit of skill and he also carries well.”
As a youngster he learnt his rugby with Broughton Red Rose and was capped at England Youth level. It was no surprise when he joined Bradford Bulls as a 16-year-old on a three year deal.
But he only did two years at Odsal before linking-up with Leeds and while there spent a brief spell with Hunslet.
McAvoy was one of three players who withdrew their services at Whitehaven and was subsequently released by the LEL Arena club.
He joins Town at the time they have just lost two more forwards through injury on Sunday during the win at North Wales Crusaders.
Hanley Dawson and Matty Henson have joined fellow forwards Grant Reid, Tom Curwen, Cain Barnes and JJ Key on the injured list.
