Despite a 1-0 home defeat to Fulwood Amateurs in their opening game, Whitehaven are taking plenty of positives from their performance.
Last season Fulwood had scored nine goals against the west Cumbrians in two Lancashire League games and went on to finish fourth in the table.
Head coach Carl Short said: “We prepared really well and did our background work from previous videos of games against Fulwood.
“We expected them to be well organised and fifficult to break down at times but we shared lkarge portions of the possession and in our view we were really unfortunate not to get at least a point out of the game.
“Fulwood are a good team in a challenging League and after they scored a total of nine against us in the home and away games last season we are taking loads of positives into Milnthorpe away on Tuesday.
“It will be another tough game for us against a side who won 3-0 at Turton in their opener, but we will be ready for it.”
Whitehaven had started brightly against a young Fulwood side and there were chances for both in the early part of the game.
In making a superb challenge Cody Benson had to come off with a gash to his leg and that seemed to unsettle Haven for a period.
It was during that spell on 15 minutes when Leyton Kirnon scored what proved to be the only goal of the game.
A change back to the starting formation gave Haven a better balance and they started to turn possession into opportunities.
There were chances for both sides but in the latter part of the game Haven had the upper hand when they might have won it.
They had a clear penalty waved away; had a goal disallowed for a marginal offside and in the final minute hit the post.
