Carlisle make their shortest trip of the season on Saturday as they continue their battle to hang onto the Cumbria League’s Premier Division title.
The city side visit Wigton who have rallied well after a poor start to the season and won’t mind putting a spoke in Carlisle’s title ambitions.
Carlisle beat the rain and Millom last week to stay three points ahead of Furness who were taken all the way in a rain-affected but thrilling contest at third-placed Workington.
All things considered, it’s all starting to look as though the clash at Furness Park next Saturday will decide the outcome if there are no weather interventions.
Furness will expect to pick up maximum points on Saturday when they entertain a Haverigg side who managed to move off the bottom of the table last week when their game with Whitehaven was abandoned.
They have been replaced at the bottom by Cleator who have tumbled down the table since the first few weeks and look in serious trouble.
Cleator have a home game against West Cumbrian neighbours Egremont and will be looking to rekindle some winning form against a side who have improved considerably this season to occupy a top six place.
Match of the day features Workington for the second week in a row as they visit Cockermouth.
Defeat at home to Furness last week hit Workington’s own title ambitions and they are now the outsiders in the top three with six games left.
They make a quick return to Sandair, having lost there in Sunday’s Higson Cup semi-final. It was settled by Duckworth Lewis in the end but in truth Workington were well beaten.
That defeat ended Workington’s chance of becoming the first team in the history of the Higson Cup to win the trophy for three years in a row.
A game in the final against Furness was some consolation for Cockermouth who had seen their title hopes extinguished a day earlier with a defeat against Egremont.
Millom v Keswick and Whitehaven v Lindal Moor complete the day’s fixtures.
