Burlington Aggregates bought by Holker Group

South Cumbrian firm Burlington Aggregates has been bought by the Holker Group.

Its acquisition will secure jobs in south Cumbria and create a new head office at Goldmire Quarry in Barrow.

It will also effectively increase the size of Holker Group by 30 per cent and double the size of its subsidiary business, Burlington Stone.

Burlington Aggregates Ltd started as a partnership between Neil Price Construction Services and Burlington Stone eight years ago, linking the companies’ expertise in logistics and quarrying while using sand, limestone and slate quarries.

Now Holker Group has moved to become sole owners of the business. It has invested in new offices at Goldmire as it looks to further develop the company’s reputation for manufacture and distribution of British decorative and construction aggregates, both locally and nationally.

Holker Group chief executive Allen Gibb said the purchase was a significant investment. He added: “I would like to thank Neil for the part he and his family have played in growing the Burlington Aggregates business, an idea that was first conceived in 2013 with the joint venture subsequently launched in 2015.

“This acquisition will strengthen Burlington Stone, but it is an important development for the whole of Holker Group.

“The businesses within the group rely on each other across a diverse portfolio that covers leisure, tourism, property and quarrying. This move increases our resilience going forward.”

Lucy Cavendish, chairman of Holker Group, said: “This is an exciting development that will take the business forward and safeguard jobs. The Cavendish family and Holker Group have a long and proud history of supporting industry and business in south Cumbria and this investment opens up another exciting chapter for us.”

Richard Page, managing director of Burlington Stone, said the acquisition would significantly increase capacity and lead to a broader range of opportunities, adding: “We are delighted to take on the mantle of the business in full.

“It brings to us an aggregate processing capability which, along with the brand new state-of-the-art ready mix plant, landfill and recycling operations and rail and ship loading, will broaden the services we offer.

“It is helping us to create a unique construction materials group. Burlington Stone will be one of the largest independently owned construction materials groups in the North West.”
