
The Cumberland County League returned with a bang on Saturday with 33 goals scored in eight games across both divisions.
In the Premier Division Aspatria we’re 5-2 winners against Gosforth as Andrew Trestianu (2), Logan Dixon, Sean Law and Richard Hudson were on the scoresheet for them.
Gosforth goals in reply came from Rhys Singleton and Ryan Gray.
Goals from Jamie Martin, Bradley Rooney and Glen Meagan made sure Cleator Moor Celtic Reserves started with a 3-0 win over Workington AFC Reserves.
Elsewhere reigning champions Wigton Harriers were held by newly promoted Carlisle City Development in a 1-1 draw. Tom McDonald scored for City with Sam Irving replying for Wigton.
Whitehaven Miners Social also drew 1-1 with Maryport Athletic after a mix-up at the back resulted in them conceding an early own goal. However Lewis Park scored the goal for the Miners which ensured the points were shared.

In Division One, Dearham United started life strongly in the County League with a 7-1 win against Whitehaven Miners Social Development.
Four of the goals came from Lewis Manchester and there was a brace for Jack Brown with Dylan Robinson netting the other. Ben McCarron was Miners’ goal scorer.
Elsewhere, fellow debutants Keswick started with a 1-1 draw against Whitehaven AFC Reserves. Joppy Hodgson scored for the hosts and Robbie Watson replied for Whitehaven.

Meanwhile it wasn’t the return Mirehouse had hoped after their year out as they crashed 6-0 to Cockermouth, who were relegated at the end of the season.
Luke Graham (3), Keith Skillen, Mark Campbell and Rob Cox gave Cockermouth an emphatic start to the campaign.

Goals from Liam O’Pray, Spike Canavan and Dean Relph helped Bransty Rangers to a 3-0 win over Windscale Reserves.
The Cumberland County League takes a break over the Bank Holiday and will return on September 2.
