In the First Division of the Carlisle and District Billiards League there was an entertaining match in the Qzone derby.
Dave Midgley was absolutely superb in the opening frame in defeating snooker’s 100 per cent man Giles Finneghan with a 36 break helping him to a 100-36 victory.
Chris Forrester restored parity for Qzone, winning 100-59, before Mike Griffiths restored the away side’s lead with a 120-49 victory over Paul Wright.
Paul Corbishley again pulled the match level, with his excellent potting in particular seeing off Michael Waring.
In the decider, ex-snooker pro Mike Nixon, playing in the league for the first time in 20 years, sealed the win for Inter with a 120-65 victory. Final score, Qzone 2, Inter Qzone 5.
Other scores: Annan 2, Rock A 5; Southend A 4, Longtown 2; Rock 4, Denton Holme 2.
Southend continued their good start to life in the Second Division by winning 6-1 at the Cons Club. Tim Ward won 80-41 in the number one’s battle, and Mark Taylor extended the away team’s lead with an 80-63 victory.
Peter Day’s 27 break helped Cons pull one back, before Harry Ruddick and Stuart Telford brought the points back to the Southend with 80-47 and 80-25 wins respectively.
Other scores: Maggies 1, Southend C 6; Qzone Originals 4, Ex B 2; Ex C 6, Eastriggs 0.
The billiards singles competitions started this week and the notable achievement was a maximum break for Mally Lancaster in the deciding frame of his first round victory in the newly coined Dave Saulters Cup.
