Parkside impress with Sunday league win

Parkside were impressive 5-1 winners over Dearham Commercial in the top game in the new West Cumberland Sunday League Premier Division’s match of the day.

They had gone into the clash all square with a win and a draw from their first two games but Parkside proved convincing winners.

Callum Birdsall (2), Owen Charlton (2) and Ben McCarron ensured that Parkside won comfortably with Danny Dryden netting for the home side.

Northside have been the dominant side over the last few years in the Workington Sunday League and they have opened in their new surroundings with two wins without conceding a goal.

Latest was a 4-0 win at FC Cosmos in which Tommy Whitehead had a major part to play in scoring all four goals.

It was only 1-0 at half-time and Cosmos felt strongly they should have had a penalty and also had a goal awarded instead of being ruled offside.

But in the second-half Northside swept them away, producing a strong team performance to go with Whitehead’s finishing ability and were clear-cut, deserved winners in the end.

Deer Orchard are still searching for their first point of the season as they suffered a third successive defeat – this time 3-2 at home to Moresby Rangers.

Luke Graham and Sam Wright were on target for the Cockermouth side but Moresby clinched the points with goals from Reuben Butterworth (2) and George Frampton.

Three teams share the lead in Division One although only Salterbeck and Sun Inn are 100% as Flimby Social suffered their first defeat after they had won both their opening games.

Flimby went down 4-1 at home to Sun Inn with Richard O’Keefe grabbing a hat-trick for the Aspatria side. Louie Elliott scored the fourth and Kyle Davis replied for Flimby.

Salterbeck were the day’s top scorers as they overwhelmed The Sun 14-1, Niall Melton and Leon Wharrier scored hat-tricks and there were doubles for Logan Potter and Lim Corrie. Brad Newell, Luke Montgomery, Dominic Scott and Tyler Haile completed the scoring. Gary Woods netted for the Sun.

The points were shared after a 3-3 draw between FC Butcher’s and Senhouse Street. Gary O’Driscoll grabbed a hat-trick for Senhouse but Butcher’s earned their point with goals from Joe Porter (2) and Lewis Pattinson.

The other two games were also tightly fought before ending in 3-2 victories for King’s Arms at Seaton Rangers and Royal Oak over Swan.

Coady Scott, Kian Hoey and an own goal made up King’s Arms winning tally with Dan Graham notching both for Seaton.

James Harper, Owen Street and Dale Anderton gave Royal Oak the win with Shaun Patterson and David Miller netting for the Swan.

There are more fixtures arranged for Thursday night as follows, kick-off 6.30pm:

  • Premier Division: Deer Orchard v Blue Bell; Lowca Pirates v Parkside; Moresby Rangers v FC Cosmos; Northside v Dearham Commercial.
  • First Division: Flimby Social v Butcher’s; King’s Arms v Salterbeck; Seaton Rangers v The Sun; Senhouse Street v Royal Oak; Sun Inn v Swan.
