Former Workington Reds forward Nico Evangelinos will be sidelined for up to three months after breaking his leg playing for Lancaster on Bank Holiday Monday at Atherton Collieries.
He scored from the penalty spot midway through the second half to seal the points in a 2-0 win but was substituted later in the game after colliding heavily with Colls goalkeeper Nico Defreitas-Hansen.
Later X-ray scans have confirmed that 28-year-old Evangelinos has suffered a fractured fibula.
The former Ramsbottom top-scorer had joined Workington under Chris Willcock for 2021/22 season but he suffered a leg injury after scoring a fine goal at Marine and was rarely fit long
When Willcock left the Reds he signed for Lancaster along with ex-Workington team-mates Brad Carroll and Brad Hubbold and scored 11 goals in 43 games last season to be the Dolly Blues top scorer.
So far this season City have picked up 11 points from their opening six matches and his early-season form has helped the Dolly Blues enjoy a positive start to the new Northern Premier League season.
Mark Fell’s side are next in action on Saturday as they host Witton Albion in FA Cup first round qualifying and are due to play at Borough Park on Tuesday, September 26 – one of only two mid-week games left for the west Cumbrians.
