10-goal thriller for Thornhill and Moresby Rangers

Thornhill finally got their season underway last night in the new West Cumberland Sunday League and featured in a 10-goal thriller.

Unfortunately for them they were on the receiving end, though, going under 6-4 at home to Moresby Rangers in a Premier Division clash.

Thornhill had asked for a little more time to prepare for the new season and add some more players to what had been a thin squad.

Owen Bell, Lewis Selkirk, Cameron Bell and Sean Pollen scored for Thornhill but Moresby took the points with goals from Reuben Butterworth (3), Jay Connor, George Frampton and Owen Thompson.

Another hat-trick hero was Lewis Park for FC Cosmos in their 4-1 win over Lowca. Alan Cardy was the other scorer for Cosmos with Nathan McGlennon replying for Lowca.

Northside went top of the Premier Division table with a 3-0 win at Deer Orchard. The last champions of the Workington Sunday League were quick out of the traps and were on the front foot from the off, something they hadn’t done in previous games although winning all three.

Kyle Graham slotted an early goal to reap the rewards of their early pressure and before half-time the excellent Harry Watson added the second.

Northside controlled the second-half and any thoughts Orchard might have had about a fightback disappeared when Callum Killiock netted a third goal for the visitors who were recording their third clean sheet in four games.

Orchard find themselves bottom without a point in five games but have had to contend with a number of injuries and have been blooding some youngsters so far.

The other Premier Division game saw Dearham Commercial win 5-1 at Bluebell with goals from Atlee Skillen (3), Jack Brown and Lewis Manchester. Jake Sampson was on target for Blue Bell.

Division One leaders Salterbeck suffered a severe dent to their record when they crashed 7-0 at Butchers – quite a way to lose their unbeaten record.

Josh Patterson (3), Jack Anderson, Lewis Mattinson and Ciaran Laverty scored for Butchers who also had the help of a Salterbeck own goal.

Senhouse Street are still unbeaten and up to second after they beat King’s Arms 4-0. Chris Taylor, Ryan Kellett, Declan Moore and Paul Brown all hit the back of the net.

Sun Inn, though, are the only 100 per cent side in the First Division although they weren’t in action last night. They have won all three games so far.

The Sun, however, did play, and lost 7-0 at Royal Oak. Dale Anderson (3), Luke Youdale (2), Brandon Tolson and Ryan Nichols were the goal-scorers.

Top scorers on the night were Flimby Social who came home from Swan with the points from a 9-2 victory.

Kule Davis was yet another player to enjoy a mid-week hat-trick with Brandon Birks (2), Cody Petrie (2), Tom Husband and Scott Underwood also netting.

Swan did gain some consolation from goals by Shaun Patterson and Jack Parker.

Games this Sunday are:

  • Premier Division: Dearham Commercial v Thornhill; Deer Orchard v FC Cosmos; Northside v Lowca Pirates; Parkside v Blue Bell.
  • Division One: Butchers v Seaton Rangers; Flimby Social v King’s Arms; Salterbeck v Swan; Sun Inn v Royal Oak; The Sun v Senhouse Street.
