Carlisle City continued their climb up the Northern League table and went sixth after their 2-0 home win over Seaham Red Star.
Manager Jim Nichols said: “I think it was the most comfortable narrow wins in my time at the club. We led 1-0 until the 88th minute but I don’t think we were in any danger of conceding.
“If there was a complaint it would be that we didn’t put the game to bed until late on but I don’t think they ever seriously threatened us.
“The good thing was that we were creating chances and were very solid at the back. In all competitions we have only lost twice in nine games – once in the League and once in the FA Cup. We would have taken that particular stat at the start of the season.”
Dan Kirkup had put City ahead on 13 minutes but they didn’t get their second until the 88th minute when Callum Birdsall netted.
City have no game in mid-week and are in action on Saturday at Newcastle Benfield who are immeeately below them in the table, two points less and from a game fewer.
“It’s going to be a dress rehearsal for the FA Vase tie because we have to go there in the next round. It will be tough but if we play like we did on Saturday I don’t fear anyone,” said Nichols.
