A Cumbrian paintballing range has enjoyed a visit from a popular Scottish singer.

Tom Walker – who is best known for his song ‘Leave a Light On’ – visited Raw War Paintball and Airsoft in Aspatria on Friday as part of a friend’s stag do.

Chris Wilson, who owns the site, said that he didn’t realise it was the star until he checked with one of the other stags – who also happened to be actor Dan Parr, known for playing Barnardo in National Theatre Live’s Hamlet, starring Benedict Cumberbatch.

Chris said: “During the day I was chatting away to Dan and I spotted someone in the group wearing a beanie.

“I looked at him again and said to Dan ‘that fella could not look more like Tom Walker if he tried’ and he said, ‘Chris, he is Tom Walker!’

“Tom came over and we had a good laugh about it all and he said come on let’s get a picture taken, so we did.

“I listen to him all the time. It was quite funny, when we were establishing if he was the real Tom Walker, I said go on then prove it and he said ‘get lost it’s my day off!’ it was just a right good day.

“What I really liked about him is you expect people like that to be different in some way, but he was so normal to chat with, it was really nice. He was one of the lads and just being himself.”

Chris added that the star also happily chatted away to his wife and that the group had travelled up from Ambleside to spend the day on the range.

He said: “It was just a really cool day and really unexpected to see them guys. What was also great is that they were actually staying out in Ambleside.

“I used to do paintballing out there but I don’t do it anymore, and they said they were happy to travel to us and our site.

“I was delighted that they hired a coach and made the trip out and spent the full day with us. It’s really good to know we’re doing a good enough job for them to do that.”

The group played low impact paintballing, which Chris said was perfect anyone aged nine or over and especially for stag or hen dos before a wedding, as there’s no risk of bruises.

Raw War Paintball and Airsoft has been running for 25 years and Chris added that they are open for bookings year around.
