Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team had a very different kind of callout this week – when they were summoned to a Workington beach.
A person had injured themselves while on the shore at Salterbeck on Tuesday. A 999 call was made for the North West Ambulance Service.
The ambulance service initially contacted the mountain rescue team for help getting the patient over the rocky terrain.
The team informed the Coastguard and Whitehaven and Maryport Coastguard rescue teams also attended the incident.
Whitehaven Coastguard Rescue Team said: “Arriving on scene, all ambulance, Coastguard rescue teams and the mountain rescue team worked collaboratively to assess, treat and then extract the casualty across the rugged coastal terrain to the waiting ambulance.
“Just as HM Coastguard have a statutory obligation for coastal incidents around the UK and can assist partner agencies inland, mountain rescue teams can also assist on the coast.
“We may be different organisations, but we often work alongside one and other to achieve a common search and rescue goal.”
