Two key games in the Cumbria League’s Premier Division are at opposite ends of the county on Saturday.
In the north it’s Carlisle against Workington where a home win will keep the Championship trophy at Edenside for another year.
Down in the south there’s a crucial relegation battle with Lindal Moor hosting Haverigg, a point better-off than their visitors at the bottom.
Workington’s home game against Carlisle was a thriller, ebbing and flowing before the champions got home by two wickets.
The west Cumbrians’ challenge has rather fallen away in recent weeks, culminating in a heavy home defeat to Keswick last Saturday.
Carlisle have been largely consistent throughout the season, a factor which has put them top of the pile when it matters.
Their only threat now comes from Furness, who visit Keswick but a win over Workington is all that’s required by Michael Slack’s side.
With Cleator fighting their way clear of the relegation zone it’s developed into a straight fight between Lindal – who were promoted last season – and Haverigg to see who goes and who stays.
But there might still be hope for the one that does finish bottom – if Furness 2nds or Millom 2nds win the First Division title.
If that’s the case nobody would be promoted or relegated. However Dalton and Ulverston are still involved in an intriguing race to the title which reaches its conclusion on Saturday.
They go into their final game like this – Dalton 132, Furness 2nds 132, Millom 2nds 128, Ulverston 127.
Dalton go to Cockermouth 2nds; Furness 2nds entertain Vickerstown while Ulverston host Millom 2nds.
Dalton were relegated last season and if they win at Sandair will be promoted as they have better stats than Furness 2nds.
The rest of the Premier Division games are as follows: Cleator v Wigton; Egremont v Whitehaven; Millom v Cockermouth.
