Temporary traffic light

Roadworks are set to start on the A590 in South Cumbria next week.

The road, near Meathop, will be resurfaced, have new signs installed and a new footpath built by National Highways.

Preparation work is currently ongoing, with signs and road markings being put in place for the primary phase of scheme delivery.

Work will begin on Monday, October 2, and is due to be completed by mid-November.

A contraflow system will be in place in the westbound carriageway; this will allow one lane of traffic to travel in both directions while the eastbound carriageway is closed.

Abnormal loads are not allowed to travel through the section of work.

Access to the BP petrol station will be maintained during opening hours.

From Tuesday, October 17 to Monday, October 23, work will start overnight from 10pm to 6am. The A590 eastbound between Meathop roundabout and the end of the dual carriageway and the Witherslack junction will be fully closed overnight.

Fully signed local diversion routes will be in place.
