A man has been arrested after an assault on the A595 between Orton Grange and Carlisle.
The attack happened between 9pm and 10pm on Saturday and involved a man and a woman.
The woman suffered injuries to her face.
The man is described as of average height, slim build and was wearing a black hat and a grey Nike tracksuit top, black or dark jogging bottoms and trainers.
A 33-year-old man from Carlisle has been arrested in connection and remanded in custody.
Officers are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed or have information.
