Four arrests have been made after a Ford Focus was taken for a joyride and then crashed and abandoned in West Cumbria.

Police are investigating the incident, which took place between 6pm and 6.45pm on Sunday in the Maryport and Flimby areas.

Officers are asking for witnesses to come forward, or anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage to get in touch if they saw a dark Ford Focus, registration number NC55 GHG being driven on Ewanrigg Road in Maryport, and the farm tracks and lonnings that connect Maryport to Flimby and Broughton Moor.

The vehicle subsequently crashed at Pennygill Road in Flimby and it is reported six young people made off from the vehicle.

Four arrests have been made in connection and all are currently released on bail.

Police said they were actively seeking additional witnesses who can identify any of the occupants in the vehicle.

Anyone with information relating to the incident can report it online at www.cumbria.police.uk/reportit, quoting incident number 193 of the 1 October 2023 or call 101.

Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
