Barrow moved to the fringe of the play-off places with a 1-0 home win last night over Morecambe.
It ended a recent sequence of goalless draws at Holker Street but also brought to an end Morecambe’s eight-match unbeaten run.
In truth they offered little threat as home keeper Paul Farman did not have a save – worthy of the name – to make in the whole game.
Barrow are now eighth while Morecambe will feel bitterly disappointed at their display as a win would have taken them second in the table.
Home manager Pete Wild had asked for patience from the fans as the previous two home games had been particularly cheerless 0-0 affairs.
That changed in the 29th minute when experienced striker Dom Telford was quick to reach a header from team-mate Emile Acquah and fire home.
Morecambe were fortunate to still have 11 men on the pitch when former Carlisle United full-back Joel Senior was booked for a foul by referee Benjamin Speedie and then was not cautioned for another foul on Elliot Newby.
It was no real surprise because of that Senior was substituted at the break and soon after the resumption Barrow almost doubled their lead when Acquah’s shot was blocked by keeper Adam Smith and Telford’s quick follow up was cleared off the line by visitors’ captain Farrend Rawson.
Morecambe had gone into the contest looking for a fourth straight away win but home keeper Farman had one of his quietest games of the season.
