Dave ‘Sarnie’ Sanderson in action for Ex-C

The second division of the Carlisle and District Billiards League saw some top action with a fascinating battle for the top and bottom spots unfolding.

After the long journey to Eastriggs, Buffs B had a spectacular start, Peter Dean having a 30 break along the way to winning his game 80-40 as the hosts continued their push for promotion.

John Greenland completed a dream start for the Buffs with a great comeback in the second half, winning 80-66.

Brian Makepeace fell well behind early on, and made a very valiant effort in coming back a few times, but eventually lost as Jim O’Donnell emerged victorious 80-66.

Chris Bray went on last and lost, and for the first time this season Buffs were a player down, seeing Eastriggs take the tie and the extra point. Eastriggs 4, Buffs B 2. Thanks to Chris Bray for the report.

There was also another victory for Ex C, winning 5-2 against Southend C and establishing a little breathing room at the top.

The first frame was won by Dene O’Neill for Southend C, who managed to shake the usually consistent Stuart Burgess, winning by 80-75.

This was followed by a masterclass by Dave Turley, who slammed in a 35 and 17 break while riding to a comfortable 80-29 win.

Adie Shaw put on a confident display for Southend C in the third frame, winning 80-54, before usual service was resumed for Ex C. Their win was rounded off by Dave ‘Sarnie’ Sanderson, staying in control with a nice 80-31 win.

OTHER SCORES: Southend 2, St Margaret Mary’s 5; Cons 0, Qzone Originals 7.

In the First Division, Rock closed the gap on table-topping Inter Qzone by winning the Rock derby 6-1, while Inter Qzone fought to a tough 4-2 win at home to Longtown.

OTHER SCORES: Denton Holme 4, Southend A 2; Buffs A 4, Annan 2.
