Carlisle City return to action tomorrow with a home game against North Shields.
Tuesday’s trip to Sunderland RCA was called-off because of a waterlogged pitch.
City are still smarting from last Saturday’s 4-0 home defeat to Charnock Richard in the FA Vase and North Shields will provide an interesting test.
Both sides have ambitions to finish in the top six and at the moment have games in hand to take them there – as long as they win them.
Shields are eighth in the table, a point and two places better off than City with both having played 14 games. Most of the teams ahead of them have played 16 or 17.
City pride themselves on their home record – beaten only once in the League – so Saturday’s defeat in the FA Vase was a blow to their pride.
Cumbrian neighbours Penrith are without a fixture – as too are mid-week conquerors Boro Rangers – a fact which rightly upset Bonnyblues boss Darren Edmondson.
“Why play in mid-week when we are both free on the Saturday. It doesn’t make sense to me,” said Edmondson – before, as well as after, the 5-1 defeat.
In the North West Counties Premier Division Kendal Town got back to winning ways on Tuesday with a 4-2 win at Squire’s Gate.
That victory moved them back into the play-off positions but they take a break from the League tomorrow with a home tie in the Macron Cup against Atherton LR.
The First Division North side are going well, third in the table, but Kendal will expect to make progress as they bid to improve on last season when they were beaten semi-finalists.
In First Division North Holker Old Boys are mid-table ninth and have a home game against Euxton Villa, who are just behind Atherton LR in fourth place.
Windscale lie fifth in the Wearside League and will expect to continue their rise up the table when they host Wolviston who are third bottom.
In the West Lancashire League Cleator Moor Celtic have a home game against Tempest United while Whitehaven travel to Blackpool Wren Rovers.
Celtic’s game was postponed last week. Eighth in the table Celtic are two points better off than Tempest in tenth but have played two more games than their visitors.
Whitehaven have showed-up well recently against the top four sides in the League with a win, two draws and a narrow defeat.
Blackpool Wren Rovers are sixth in the table so it will be another tough test for the west Cumbrians.
