Cleator Moor Celtic were 3-0 winners in the local derby with Whitehaven in the West Lancashire League.
Jay Weatherill had given them the lead after 15 minutes and the same player doubled the lead five minutes before half-time.
The victory was wrapped-up 15 minutes from the end when Luke Close scored the third from the penalty spot.
It was a welcome first win against Whitehaven this season for the Celtic as their visitors had won the previous two meetings earlier in the season.
Celtic manager Stuart Shaw said: “On the back of two defeats by Whitehaven a third one was unthinkable from our point of view.
“The players turned up, they listened and they delivered and they could then go and enjoy their Christmas and New Year. I’m massively proud of every single one of them.
“I know, having watched and kept an eye on Whitehaven, that they can be a danger and it’s a credit to their coaching staff that they have a good bunch of lads wanting to play the right way.
“But we didn’t allow that this time and our intensity and our quality as a unit didn’t allow them to get any momentum in the game.
“Everything we worked on and talked about was delivered and to come away with a clean sheet was an added bonus.”
Whitehaven manager Jon Karl Benson said: “The better team won on the day and there are no complaints from me. They wanted it more and were much better.”
