
Division One’s Station Road Club went into the L&L Property Contractors Snooker League end of year break feeling good.
They had just recorded a solid 4-1 home victory against Division Two’s Workington Veterans Club B.
A victory by Tom Thompson in the first set-up the Station Road Club side nicely. However as Adam Hodgson won the second for Vets B the match was in the balance.
A win on the last few balls from Chris Hunter put Station Road in front again at 2-1 and as John Teasdale took the next for 3-1, a Station Road Club triumph was assured.
The last frame of the match produced the evening’s most convincing performance, as with a break of 31 it was Darren Lawson who topped off the fixture nicely to the delight of his team mates.
Station Road remain fifth in Division One on 23 points and Vets B sit fifth in Division Two on 11 points.
Division One front runners Workington Golf Club A increased their lead at the top with a 5-0 whitewash over club rivals Workington Golf Club B.
Wins for Mark Brasted and Bryan Walker got the Golf Club A side off to a great start and with Ryan Ismay adding to his team’s early efforts the scoreline moved to 3-0.
Phil Sorfleet was impressive as he made it 4-0 and with Mark Cowen equally potent in the final frame the defending champions romped over the line for a clean sweep.
Golf Club A are top of Division One on 31 points and Golf Club B are sixth in Division Two on 10 points.
Flimby Social kept up the pressure as far as their Division One title aspirations are concerned with a 4-1 home win over Whitehaven’s Rack Shack.
Peter McAvoy got the away side off to great start with a victory in the first but as Flimby quickly hit back with victories from Kevin Kirkham and Michael ‘Sid’ Walker the hosts moved 2-1 ahead.
A close-fought win for Richard Kirkham ensured the match victory at 3-1 and with Flimby captain, Geoff Banton, producing the largest winning margin of the match in the final frame an improved 4-1 scoreline was delivered.
Flimby are third in Division One on 29 points and the Rack Shack are third in Division Two on 12 points.
Workington Conservative Club made the short journey up town to take on Workington Veterans Club A and with a dogged display the former top tier champions ran out 3-2 winners.
Julian Plaza delivered a tactical masterclass to put his side 1-0 up and with a returning Richard McCarthy finding his potting form in the latter half of frame two the Cons stood two to the good.
Breaks of 31 and 36 from Vets A’s Kevin Basnett made short work of frame three to reduce the deficit but with Ryan Barker in confident mood the Cons outfit moved 3-1 in front after frame four.
Even though Vets A took the last to end on the wrong side of a 3-2 scoreline they still improved their lead at the top of Division Two, due to United B having a free week, to three on a 24 point total. Cons are fourth in Division One on 24 points.
Finally, Workington’s United Club A powered their way to a Division One second place, on 29 points, with a 5-0 whitewash away to Division Two’s Maryport Social.
An Andrew Mitchelhill break of 46 soon took care of frame one and with Peter O’Hagan winning a relatively low scoring second United A moved into a swift 2-0 lead.
A Clive Lister black ball win in frame three gave the match an ominous feel and with a Mark Suitor triumph quickly followed by a Dave Chapman win the United A outfit completed a crushing match win.
Maryport Social sit fourth in Division Two on 11 points.
