A Cumbrian nine-year-old has completed a mammoth challenge to run every day for a year for the Woodland Trust.
Wesley van Schelven, a pupils at Lorton School has headed out in all weathers and enjoyed warm sunrises, braved horizontal rain and wind, and slid on frosty ice and snow.
His determination and motivation has seen him run over 550km and climbed over 10,000 metres.
He said: “I enjoy being out in the peace and in nature. I enjoy watching it. Some days it has been hard in the bad weather but most days I have loved it. And I always feel better for getting out and doing it.”
He lives near Whinlatter Forest so most of his runs have been along the trails there, plus he is a regular at Keswick Junior parkrun. He has headed out every day before school, to explore the woods.
He chose to run each day for the Woodland Trust and has already raised £575.
Wesley is a member of Cumberland Fell Runners Juniors, and this season won the best newcomer award.
He runs an average of 1.5km a day but at a weekend he has run up to 14km.
