Sport in Cumbria is in the hands of the weather tomorrow with pitches subject to early morning inspections.
In non-league circles Workington Reds are hopeful that temperatures will continue to rise and that Borough Park will be playable for the NPL Premier Division clash with Warrington Rylands.
Prospects hadn’t looked so good in mid-week but the warmer conditions have helped and all will depend on what happens overnight – and how the forecast rain affects the surface.
The early-morning inspection will be ahead of Rylands setting off for West Cumbria.
In the North West Counties Premier Division Kendal Town are off to the Isle of Man for their latest test in a game with a 6pm kick-off.
A 4-3 defeat at Lower Breck last week resulted in the Mintcakes slipping out of the play-off places into sixth. But the Isle of Man have been struggling of late and although 14th in the current table are 22nd in the form table.
Jimmy Marshall’s side will be strengthened by the recruitment of striker Matt Dudley from Ramsbottom. The former Preston North End trainee has 19 goals to his name this season.
In Division One North Holker Old Boys are on the road to Garstang. The Barrow side are ninth in the table but only two points outside the play-offs.
Garstang are six places lower in the table and some 15 points behind them.
In the Northern League Carlisle City were due to host Whitley Bay tonight a fortnight after they lost 1-0 over there. Both sides have top five ambitions with City very hard to beat on their own Gillford Park pitch.
But word from the City camp this morning was that the game is likely to be called off because of pitch conditions.
Neighbours Penrith are on a free-scoring run but face a stern test tomorrow at home to second-in-the-table Shildon.
In the Wearside League Windscale are due to host Annfield Plain – fifth against 10th. The Cumbrians are only six points off top spot and are on a long unbeaten run of 13 games.
After two successive defeats ion the West Lancashire League Cleator Moor Celtic hope to get back on track at home to Blackpool Wren Rovers.
The visitors are five places lower in the Premier Division table and eight points behind.
Likewise Whitehaven will be hopeful of picking up the points when they travel to Turton who are third bottom and 21 points behind the West Cumbrians.
But whether or not any of the games go ahead will depend on the weather between now and tomorrow morning.
