Workington Reds loanees to return to parent clubs

Two players who have spent time on loan at Workington are going back to their parent clubs.

Joe Bunney (Stalybridge) and Connor Pani (Gateshead) have been with Reds for two months and a month respectively.

Manager Danny Grainger said: “It makes sense now that we have our own players fit and ready to resume.

“I’d just like to thank Joe, in particular, for his time with us. He has been totally professional and fitted in really well with the squad and how we want to play.

“But with Sam Smith and Jordan Little back to fitness and Aidy Roxburgh just about ready to resume we are well covered in defensive positions.

“There’s no real point in having loan players on the bench so that has been really behind the decision to allow the lads to go back to their clubs with our thanks for their service.”

In a twitter message Bunney said: “Enjoyed my loan at Workington AFC. Top gaffer, Danny Grainger, top group of lads and a top club with some good people.”

Reds are hoping to resume tomorrow at home to title-chasing Warrington Rylands, the side that pipped them to the NPL West title two years ago.

Although Borough Park was described as rock hard on Wednesday after several days of freezing temperatures, prospects looked brighter yesterday and today with the weather warming up.

Heavy rain is forecast tomorrow, which might cause problems, but the club have organised for an early morning pitch inspection before Rylands are due to leave.
