Kendal Town suffered another setback in their play-off challenge last night with 2-1 home defeat to Irlam Town.
Once more Kendal were undone late on as Irlam scored in the fifth and eighth minutes of time added on at the end.
It was not the best game the home faithful will have seen at Parkside Road and the fact that they slumped to defeat at the death was very disappointing.
They had conceded a goal with the last action of the game on the Isle of Man to deny them a win and on Saturday Wythenshawe score two late goals to win 3-1.
Kendal could not afford to make any further slips as they try and find the form which took them to the top of the table in the first two months of the season but the period of time added on found them wanting again.
Kendal had dominated the early exchanges but even when Irlam went down to ten men because of a sin-binning for Alex Francis they couldn’t break the deadlock.
When Francis returned the visitors finished the half strongly and Chris Cheetham had to make a good save and Matt Flynn made a superb block or the Mintcakes would have been behind.
It was against the run of play over the last ten minutes when Kendal took the lead through Jim Craig with an excellent finish into the bottom corner – his first goal for the club.
But in the second half Kendal couldn’t find the finish to give them some breathing space and it was Irlam who finished strongest.
Francis rose well to head the equaliser on 95 minutes and three minutes later substitute John Main got through to knock home the winner.
