World billiards star Dave Causier put on an exhibition of his world class skills at Qzone in Carlisle on Sunday.
After a day’s coaching with four local players, the ten times world champion played four 45-minute frames against ticket holders who won their game via a prize draw, and what a show Causier put on for the crowd!
Frame one was against one of Carlisle’s very best players, Brian Sloan, and although the local hero scored a few points early on, Causier took control with a break of 112, before the night’s highest break of 531!
The sublime control and fast-paced shot selection was an absolute joy to watch! Final score, Dave Causier 738, Brian Sloan 33.
The second frame was a very interesting affair, as league sponsor Heathcliff Stone took the baize in his first ever frame of billiards!
Stone took to the new game very well, potting several fantastic reds and even executed two excellent in-off shots. Causier took the frame with superb breaks of 153 and 167, including some classy pot reds into the middle pocket and a canon that brought a round of applause from the appreciative crowd. Final score, Dave Causier 517, Heathcliff Stone 22.

The peddle was firmly put on Causier’s metal in frame three against local player Archie Walker, an opening 176 break a warm up for the night’s second highest break of 367. Walker had minimal table time, but did shoot a couple of fantastic canons when the opportunity presented. Final score, Dave Causier 717, Archie Walker 4.
League secretary John Metcalfe was the final player to take on Causier, with the target of scoring 50 points, a tough ask indeed!
The scrappiest game of the night allowed Metcalfe to have plenty of shots, and he hit plenty of good ones to get to 51, target achieved, although Causier finished off the night with two centuries in every frame, after a 169 and a 104 on the final visit of the night.
A league spokesman said: “We would like to extend our most sincere thanks to Dave Causier for a fantastic exhibition, the genius on show easily worth the entry fee!”
