Neil Buchanan receives the FCI Diploma of Honour from RPRA President Les Blacklock.

Over 60 fanciers attended the annual Pigeon Moot organised by the West Cumbria Amalgamation at Harrington Boating Club.

As well as the panel of top fanciers, and the auction of squeakers from leading lofts, awards from the 2023 season were also presented at the event yesterday, Friday, March 1.

However, there was a very special presentation to the Egremont loft of John Wilson and Neil Buchanan which referred to the 2022 season.

They won a Diploma of Honour from the International Pigeon Federation, the first time a Cumbrian pigeon has received an award from that elite organisation.

Their pigeon had won a Cumbria Region award in 2022 and was nominated by the RPRA for the long distance category in the FCI and was announced at the Olympiad in Maastricht in January.

Andrew Naylor and Dave Maddison, along with chairman Kevin Winter, answered questions from the assembled fanciers in what proved to be an interesting and enjoyable night night.

Leading prices for the youngsters put up for sale included £210 for an Alfie Hawthorne squeaker and £160 for one from the Morris and Wayne McLuckie loft in Workington.
