Low-key start for Holmen Iggesund Cumberland ARL

The Holmen Iggesund Cumberland ARL makes a low-key start tomorrow with only two games.

But it will be a bit special for three of the sides as they are all newcomers to the League this season.

They are familiar names, mind you, as they’ve all been there before and coming back onto the local scene again.

Both games are in the preliminary round of the E Lamb and Sons Amateur Cup won last year by Maryport who beat Wath Brow A in the final.

Flimby entertain Aspatria in a game which might give an indication as to which of the returnees is in best shape for the season ahead.

Cockermouth Titans host Distington A in the other tie and that is a big game for both clubs.

The Titans fell away last season after a promising start, although they did put together a side to contest the Cumberland Cup final on the last day of the campaign.

Liam McAvoy the former Workington Town, Newcastle and Whitehaven forward is Cockermouth player-coach after keeping in trim with the Wasps rugby union team during the winter.

He will be looking for a big start against a young Distington side, taking over the club mantle in the CARL after the seniors left to join the National Conference.ReplyReply allForward
