Five homes in Kendal were evacuated after an unknown chemical was found in a flat.
Police visited a flat in Sandes Court yesterday, March 8, as part of an ongoing investigation.
While searching the address a suspected, unknown, chemical was found.
As a result, a multi-agency response was in place at the scene.
There was no risk to the public, police said, but as a precaution, five neighbouring flats were temporarily evacuated.
A statement from police issued at 9.40pm said the flat had been secured and those who had been evacuated had returned to their homes.
Investigations remain ongoing, they added.
