
Cockermouth and Aspatria will contest the quarter final of the E Lamb and Son Amateur Cup next month.
On the opening day of the new Holmen Iggesund Cumberland ARL season they both won their preliminary round ties.
Cockermouth beat League newcomers Distington A 34-16 while in a clash of the new boys Aspatria won 32-26 at Flimby.
Ed Gate was man of the match for Cockermouth as he contributed a try and five conversions to the Titans winning total.
Frazer Murray (2), Lewis Bancroft, Regan Tinnion and Will Gate scored the other Cockermouth tries, and they had points in hand despite having Oliver Gray sent to the sin bin for dissent.
The Distington tries were scored by Damien Blacklock, Andy Hunter and Kyah Frazer with Deaton Askew kicking two goals. Bailey Worthington was their man of the match.
Flimby held a 20-14 half time lead over Aspatria in their tie but the Hornets came back to win in.
Aspatria won it with tries from Brad Thompson (2), Mark Irwin, Dan Potts, Jordan Ridley, Ben Toothill and their man of the match Scott Donald. Toothill added three conversions.
Flimby’s tries came from Rhys Booty, Iestyn Hughes, man of the match Nathan Kirkbride and Ben Harrison. Dan Weir converted four and kicked a penalty.
The Holmen Iggesund Premier League gets underway fully next weekend with the following games:
Friday March 15 – Wath Brow A v Ellenborough A.
Saturday March 16 – Askam v Hensingham A; Flimby v Glasson Rangers; Aspatria v Kells A; Lowca v Distington A.
