Carlisle United are said to be keeping close tabs on Queen’s Park youngster Stuart McKinstry.
The attacking midfielder has been in top form for the Spiders in recent weeks but is out of contract in the summer.
That has alerted the Cumbrian side who are bound for a quick return to League Two but who have been keeping tabs on the Scot since his time at Leeds.
McKinstry only moved to Queen’s in November but has impressed after being switched from the wing to a more central position and has become a key player for the Scottish Championship outfit.
Wishaw-born McKinstry came through the ranks at Motherwell before joining Leeds United but after two years at Elland Road spent six months back on-loan at Fir Park. He only played one senior game for Leeds and made 21 appearances for Motherwell.
He was capped four times for the Scotland Under-17s early in his career.
Carlisle’s new owners are already looking to make sure the team is strengthened in good time for next season and have introduced StatsBomb – a high-quality sports data service – to assist with recruitment, opposition player analysis and more.
It’s likely that the name Stuart McKinstry has been fed into StatsBomb to help by assessing his potential.
