Three former Workington Comets riders were among the points last night in the latest round of ROWE Motor Oil Premiership matches.
Charles Wright top scored for Oxford against reigning champions Sheffield; Dan Bewley pocketed nine points, but Belle Vue lost at Ipswich while Richard Lawson was in double figures as Leicester held-off King’s Lynn.
Wright bounced back from his debut meeting crash last week to top score for the hosts with 11 points, whilst Rohan Tungate and captain Chris Harris both scored in the 47-43 win over the Tigers.
The Aces’ scoring in their defeat at Ipswich was dominated by skipper Brady Kurtz, who won four races to finish on 13, whilst Bewley collected nine including a stunning win from the back over star rider Emil Sayfutdinov and Adam Ellis.
Leicester recovered from conceding a controversial 0-5 in heat two when both reserves were disqualified, and maintained a narrow advantage throughout.
They only made things virtually safe with a 4-2 from impressive debutant Luke Becker (11+2) and Drew Kemp in Heat 14, leaving them just requiring a finisher in the final race when Lawson took second for an 11-point haul on the night.
Ex-Comet Kyle Howarth scored five for Sheffield in their defeat at Oxford. He won the first race of the night from the Spires’ Wright, but could only manage a second place from his three other rides.
Connor Bailey, who was Workington’s number one last season, only scored one for Belle Vue from third place in the reserves race, failing to score in his further two rides.
